I'm using gnome-shell and all seems to be good but I've only one problem. Nautilus seems to be very slow only when I use the theme "Faenza", with other theme is all great. In particular Nautilus is slow when switching from one Nautilus window to another the gtk is slow to load and i have to wait about 1-2 seconds before the right colours are shown.
How can I fix it? Has anyone had problems like this? I'm using Ubuntu 12.10, Gnome-Shell 3.6.2 and Nautilus 3.6.3.
I figured out some ways to speed up nautilus: bookmarks and previews. But it's still not as fast as it should be ... and I have an SSD!
Bookmarks:
To fix it delete all your bookmarks, restart and then add back the ones you can't live without.
Using strace I realised that nautilus was stating lots of files for every view. Even files that were not in directory I was browsing during the trace. I think nautilus is trying to pre-cache these bookmarks.
I had one network drive as a bookmark ... this might have been the reason why nautilus was taking several seconds to load.

For gtk3 applications, if your system's GTK3 version is higher than 3.10, you can use the GTK_THEME environment variable like this:
GTK_THEME=Adwaita:dark gnome-calculator
I don't know about qt applications.
I use this script to launch LibreOffice with its own theme:

GTK2_RC_FILES=/usr/share/themes/Numix/gtk-2.0/gtkrc libreoffice --calc

Use the Ubuntu tweak's janitor tool to clean the old packages, icons and cache from cruft. It could be because of too much cache. Your problem is very unique and is not an general issue. Try my suggestion it might help
