I am using the Alt key very often and I do like the HUD and want to keep both.
This is my problem: I always use Alt+D in Chrome to access the URL bar and I'm doing this very fast, but then HUD annoyingly pops up.
When pressing ALT + Tab very fast the HUD won't pop up, but if pressing ALT + D just as fast the HUD will pop up.
Is there a way to make it work like when pressing Alt+Tab, but with Alt+D? or edit the timer for how long I have to press until it won't pop up?

The sleep interval allows me to access the menu and choose, and then it closes automatically. It's probably not the best solution but it works. If anyone has a better alternative please let me know. I find that xbindkeys only seems to work intermittentlly. It does not work on the overview (not for this command, but for a button tied to the super key. And after installing docky, I fnid that it does not work unless there is an open window available in the workspace. Odd behavior.
There is a slight change in the behavior of Alt this time; tapping Alt will bring out the HUD. Holding Alt will bring the application's menu.
If you quickly tap Alt+D you will see your cursor jump to Chrome's address bar, and then the HUD appears right over it (annoying).
If you hold down Alt and then press D, you should see the cursor go to Chrome's address bar.
In other words, you have to slow down to make it do what you want.
If you don't care about the HUD, you can go into Settings > Keyboard and change the shortcut or disable the shortcut there

There are several ways to go about this. Here are three options I can suggest you to try. It really depends on how you prefer to go about it for your system.
System Settings - Option 1
Change what key calls your HUD or completely disable it like so:

Maybe try editing your global hotkeys with a program.
xbindkeys | With this option you'll have to know how to call capabilities though shell commands.
