Ubuntu – Location of the .so files

I am trying to install deb package which contains .h, .so and .a files. After installing the deb package I am unable to find the installed location.

I checked /usr/lib, /usr/local/lib and /lib. I am supposed to install the .so and .a files in /usr/lib from deb package. To solve my problem, I copied the .a files from the extracted .deb to /usr/lib but the .so files are not copying. Please help to solve this problem.

Check out apt-file.

apt-file search horst.so

find /usr/lib -type f -exec dpkg -S {} + 2>&1 >/dev/null | sed -r 's/^[^/]+//'

First cd to the directory where your deb file is:

cd ~/lab

Then extract your deb file there:

dpkg-deb --raw-extract my.deb .

It will create some directories like:

DEBIAN  etc  usr

Apply your minor update whatever it's a new file removal or etc to the specific files you want.

Then recreate the package simply with:

dpkg-deb -b new.deb
