Ubuntu – ISO passes SHA tests, but deb packages on installation don’t match MD5

I am trying to install Ubuntu Server 12.04 in VMware, and every time I try it reports that several files in the iso are corrupt. I have tried re-downloading several times and it has not helped. What can I do?

I tried another mirror and got the same thing. The ./pool/main/s/sphinx/python-sphinx_1.1.3+dfsg-2ubuntu2.1_all.deb file failed the MD5 checksun verification. Your CD-ROM or this file may have been corrupted. Could it be a bad release?

It seems there are some naming errors with the files under \pool\main\l\linux (I found false extensions *.ude instead of *.udeb there) and a MD5-Checksum error with ./install/netboot/ubuntu-installer/i386/pxelinux.cfg/default). After fixing these errors I'm able to install the 32-bit Server Edition.

The OSX format conversion process is corrupting the file. Write it directly without converting it and everything will be fine.

#NUM=2  #Maybe - check which disk device is the right one 
dd if=ubuntu-12.04.3-server-amd64.img of=/dev/rdisk$NUM bs=1m

After you do that the check should complete correctly.

Don't proceed because, even if it happens to be safe this time round, next time round it might turn out that you downloaded a hacked or corrupted image and you won't be able to tell.
