I noticed that, when I unplugged my laptop, or closed/opened the lid, my wireless connection dropped, every time.

I tracked it down to pm-powersave, and made it stop, see below.

This could also cause repeated requests for network passwords.

I've found that /usr/sbin/pm-powersave turns OFF my wireless card when I switch to battery or suspend by closing the laptop's lid. I've gotten wireless to stay up between hibernates by executing sudo /usr/sbin/pm-powersave false. The man pm-powersave page says I can create an empty file /etc/pm/power.d/wireless to prevent /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/wireless from running and doing its magic. I've done it, and it works for me.

I found this by doing an ls -lrt /var/log just after the event, and looking at the last 100 so lines of the recently modified logs. I use this technique to start answering many questions about what my system just did.

You need to configure logind.conf - this would not disable the suspend, it would just to tell it to ignore the lid switch, or just lock screen.

This would also override any of your user's power settings, but it will work in the login screeen or when it is shutting down, when it is outside the user session and unaffected by the user's power settings.

You can configure it via:

sudo nano /etc/systemd/logind.conf

and change the HandleLidSwitch= line to:

HandleLidSwitch=ignore

Here is a qoute from a manual page - note it can take other values like lock, poweroff etc.

HandlePowerKey=, HandleSuspendKey=, HandleHibernateKey=, HandleLidSwitch=

Controls whether logind shall handle the system power and sleep keys and the lid switch to trigger actions such as system power-off or suspend. Can be one of "ignore", "poweroff", "reboot", "halt", "kexec", "suspend", "hibernate", "hybrid-sleep" and "lock". If "ignore", logind will never handle these keys. If "lock", all running sessions will be screen-locked; otherwise, the specified action will be taken in the respective event. Only input devices with the "power-switch" udev tag will be watched for key/lid switch events. HandlePowerKey= defaults to "poweroff". HandleSuspendKey= and HandleLidSwitch= defaults to "suspend". HandleHibernateKey= defaults to "hibernate".

Have you tried to disable power management on your wireless card?? I have different wireless card, but I was having a similar issue with my rtle8723be card and forcing the power management feature to be disabled worked. power management on some WiFi cards are an experimental option.

For your WiFi kernel module I found this:

sudo nano -w /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf

and adding this line to the bottom:

options iwlwifi power_save=0

to exit nano and save:

ctrl-x, Y, then press enter

to unload module:

sudo modprobe -r iwlwifi

now to reload the module:

sudo modprobe iwlwifi

if that doesn't you work you can try changing that line to:

options iwlwifi power_save=0 d0i3_disable=1 uapsd_disable=1

exit nano, save file.

then unload module:

sudo modprobe -r iwlwifi

reload the module:

sudo modprobe iwlwifi
