Ubuntu – Installing debian package through Synaptic

I want to install a .deb file. After going through various questions, I came across these three options: dpkg, GDebi and Ubuntu Software Center. However, I want to install the. Deb file via Synaptic Package Manager only. Is there any method by which I can install. Deb file as well as all it's dependencies via Synaptic Package Manager?

Well actually you can't install .deb files through Synaptic.

The Software Centre is a graphical application. As it stands at present there would be very little point in effort being put into a CLI version of the Software Centre when polished alternatives exist.

It is certainly possible Synaptic will be removed from a default install in the next few cycles.

Note that it was decided not to merge the Update Manager into the Software Centre.

If you delete the whole /var/lib/apt/lists hierarchic, you must create the partial directory under it:

sudo mkdir -p /var/lib/apt/lists/partial

Also, check that all the permissions are set:

sudo chmod -R 644 /var/lib/apt/lists
sudo chown -R root:root /var/lib/apt/lists

Then do apt-get update again.
