compizsettings
I am trying to configure a setting with gsettings in the Terminal, to avoid having to install special non-default applications to configure the settings. However, when doing so, gsettings complains the setting has a relocatable schema and does nothing.
#: gsettings set org.compiz.unityshell dash-blur-experimental 1 Schema 'org.compiz.unityshell' is relocatable (path must be specified)
How can I set the value with the gsettings command?
For 11.04 and below:
gnome-settings-daemon && gnome-appearance-properties && metacity and press enter.For all versions:
Install ccsm (Compiz Config Settings Manager).
sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager
ccsm from the terminal, (you may also optionally run metacity).Run this command in a terminal (on 11.04 and up):
gconftool --recursive-unset /apps/compiz-1On 10.10 and below:
gconftool --recursive-unset /apps/compizCredits to James Gifford for the command.
There is no way to easily configure gnome-shell notifications as of yet. You can disable them or configure them to time out.
dconf-editor allows you to configure some settings
sudo apt-get install dconf-editor
dconf-editor
You can also modify notify-send so the messages are transient.
# Move the current script to a backup location
sudo mv /usr/bin/notify-send /usr/bin/notify-send.bak
Now, use gedit for a new wrapper script
gksu gedit /usr/bin/notify-send
copy-paste this into that file
#!/bin/bash
/usr/bin/notify-send --hint int:transient:1 "$@"
Save the script , exit gedit, and make it executable
sudo chmod a+x /usr/bin/notify-send

You need to specify the
pathto the key where the setting is actually stored. For example example, for this key, you need to use the/org/compiz/profiles/unity/plugins/unityshell/path when running the command, like so:Note that the path must end with a
/character, when passed in for relocatable schemas.
