How do you prevent Network Manager from continually prompting for wireless password when it tries to reconnect after the connection temporarily drops?

Unlike this post, this happens for me without suspending. My wireless WPA2 connection might drop a couple times, and NM will automatically reconnect. However, eventually NM will start prompting for the password…which is already filled in. Clicking "Show password" confirms it's already the correct password, and clicking "connect" without changing anything also successfully connects.

Why is it doing this, and how do I stop it? It's driving me crazy. Wicd doesn't do this, but it has a lot of other problems, so I'd rather stick with NM if I could resolve this issue.

Try restarting the network manager:

sudo service network-manager restart

1) Yes. Or at least, it's always done the same for me!

2) Not directly. You can edit the connection to prevent it connecting automatically, which is one workaround.

Alternatively, when it asks for the password just click Cancel, then select the network again from the Network Manager icon; it will reconnect as normal (using the stored password).

have you tried to delete the files in the directory /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/ ?

You should have 1 file for every net you have tried to connect, open a terminal and use the commands:

sudo ls -l /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/

To list all the files, after you have found the network that you want to delete, remove them with the command:

sudo rm /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/NETWORK_NAME
