On the byobu Wikipedia page there is a screenshot with the terminal screen:
Can somebody explain to me what programs are used here?
My guess – at the bottom – vim, top right – terminal, top left – I don't know.
And how to make such a byobu screen?
In you case, you have explicitly disabled your status line, as you can tell by the flag file status.disable. You can either remove this file or run byobu-quiet --undo.
It looks like you figured this out and answered your own question in the comment. As to your new question in your comment, we have disabled a few of the infrequently used and hard to maintain menu options, which includes the background/foreground color setting.
To set the foreground/background colors, you have two options now:
$HOME/.byobu/color.tmuxFull disclosure: I'm the author and maintainer of Byobu.

My current solution that does not depend on the use of shell or terminal is to use wmctrl from a script, and place full path to the script in .byoburc . Works with gnome-terminal, terminator, sakura - just about any termimal
Here's the script:

As far as gnome-terminal goes, you can set profile preferences to keep the initial title specified in the profile settings. Bellow is the screenshot of my byuobu with keep the initial title option, and with replace initial title option
As for Terminator, I'll download and see if same applies to it.
