I have tried one of our site solution but its not working. the solution in our site is How do I change the default session for when using auto-logins?

But its not working for Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

How to change session but not from login screen ?

Ok after some searching in config files , it did mentioned in /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/50-ubuntu.conf

open your terminal with ALT+CTRL+T and type as

sudo nano /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/50-ubuntu.conf

and change line user-session to what session you want with session name as mentioned in /usr/share/xsessions/ with

ls /usr/share/xsessions/

Here is a Workaround I'm now using, not perfect, I'm probally remembering a featrue from the good ol gnome days, anyways-

I made another user to do all my "desktop experimentation". My regular user still auto logs in, and to my "default" session. So then I can just log out, mess up my other user, and easily go back to my regular desktop, when the computer shutdown(or crashes) it logs in to my normal desktop!

Just use setxkbmap when you want to switch to the US keyboard. Ex:

setxkbmap us

I've created a desktop shortcut icon to help me switch keyboard layouts because of Ibus language problems. Just edit a file named layout.desktop in $HOME/Desktop and make it executable. Here is an example for getting back to a US keyboard layout:
