Ubuntu – How to replace a clip with another one in Kdenlive
kdenlive
I would like to replace a specific clip inside a project with another one from the project bin but keep all applied effects and the length of the original clip.
Can this be done in Kdenlive?

I don't know which effects you have with your clip, but you can readily delete the unwanted clip by placing the cursor over it, left click (it should get a red enclosing marker) and then use the "delete" key to delete it. You should then be free to insert your new clip into the space on the timeline, it can be expanded to fill the empty space by clicking the cursor on the edge and dragging to the desired width. I usually find transitions carry over, but it's probably best to delete them and re-do them for the new clip. Try it, and check your effects while at it. Good luck.
Cropping a video can be done multiple ways in Kdenlive.
One way is to set the project to the desired size then set the video to original size so that only the cropped part is visible in the project.
How to do it:
Start a new project with the desired crop size.
If no profile available with required size you should create a new project profile by clicking on Manage project profiles button.
Then click on create new profile.
Change the profile settings as required in your case make it 900x690.
Import your clip to project bin and add it to timeline.
Add Position and Zoom effect to your clip.
Click on adjust to original size in the effect settings.
Change the X and Y to adjust the position of the cropped region as desired.
The only way I've found to fix this is to save my project, close KDEnlive, then relaunch and open the project. KDEnlive will pop up a box with all the missing clips and give you the option to search recursively to find them.
Once it finds each clips' new folder, click "OK".
Be sure to save your project again after KDEnlive has made the changes.
(aside: would be nice if KDEnlive had an option to perform this recursive search when right-clicking a clip that has gone "missing"... maybe someday)
