I recently got an iPhone 6s. Is there a way to transfer files (music, photos, PDF, or really anything actually) between Ubuntu and the phone? It should not involve syncing via an internet service, as I may have the need to transfer large or private files. Also, I do not want to jailbreak the device.
There are a few results when searching for this on Google, but none seems very up to date.
so far the only way ive been able to put music in my iphone is by installing an app called MEWSEEK. once installed, connect the iphone to the pc, copy all the songs to the folder DOWNLOADS (just the mp3 files NOT carpets) then unplugg the iphone and run the mewseek app, go to the downloads section (all the songs u copied must be there) at the top right tap the sync option. and done it will sync the songs.
Note: the iphone must be jailbroken, otherwise this wont work.

This is a cross-platform package which communicates with i-devices and get file-system access (and much more) and needs no jailbreaking.

After mounting your iphone like a USB device, you will be able to access the folders and then your transfer job will be just copy/paste thing.
If you are transferring a video file and it is not recognized by the default video app on iPhone, then the issue is with the file format including bitrate and frames per second. To solve this, one can simply convert to iPhone supported video format easily using Handbrake video encoder.
This application is available in the software repository and installation is easy using the the Software center on 14.04 or Software on 16.04.
In the application, choose 'iPhone and iPod touch' shown in Devices menu on the right.
(* Most of the times it is noticed that the file size becomes smaller than original. If you have several files, you can queue them and convert all of them together.)

I don't know whether there's any difference between versions, but I can simply access the files of my iPhone 5s via the file manager when it's plugged over USB (using the AFC protocol).
I'm using iOS 9.2 beta, I have no idea whether it works on 9.1 or earlier. I can access the device from Nautilus' sidebar, if it doesn't show up, try navigating to the following address:
Also, most music players (at least Rythmbox, Banshee and Clementine) support music synchronization over AFC (Apple File Conduit).
EDIT: I just learned I can easily synchronize my pictures using tools like gThumb.
