Ubuntu – How to make Unity remember which applications are in the launcher

When i log out and then log in again, the applications shown in Unity launcher are the default applications, neither can i add an application nor can i hide a default application. How to make Unity remember my apps?

I've found the answer: dconf-tools and libdconf0 were not installed, so unity couldn't remember settings.

Use Software Center or apt-get to install:

Here again to notify that after the installation of dconf-tools, libdconf-dbus-1-0, libdconf0 everything goes well:

sudo apt-get install dconf-tools libdconf0 libdconf-dbus-1-0

I found this on a bug submitted for empathy that did not save the settings.

I had the same problem. In my case it was related to the compability nvidia-current-updates (wich I installed before the upgrade to 12.10) with compiz.

I fixed it by installing the version 310.19 of the nvidia driver avaiable through this ppa (this is not the official supported version on ubuntu, but works pretty well):

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install nvidia-current nvidia-settings

In order to get this fix to work, you may have to reboot after installing the ppa.
