I just installed 12.04 and when clicking mailto: links Thunderbird opens.
I want Gmail to open in the browser, in which mailto: was clicked.
mailto: link a new FF tab should with Gmail should open. Is there a way to do this via some script? Or would I need to set this in some system settings?
Yes, you can use the desktop webmail application, for instance. http://apt.ubuntu.com/p/desktop-webmail
And put the following in file /usr/share/applications/desktop-webmail.desktop:

Assuming you are using Unity, click on the dash button in the launcher and search for 'System info'. Then, open 'System info' and move to 'Default applications' section. Then, click on the dropdown list next to Web. There, select 'Google Chrome' and it will be selected as the default web browser for your system.
