When I turn off and reboot ubuntu all my files are gone and it looks like everything has to happen again from the beginning. Can anyone help me with this problem?

Thank you!

You did not mention whether you are using a live usb or you installed ubuntu to harddisk. I suppose you are using a live usb and you want to keep your files across reboots. This is called persistence. The easiest way to create persistent live usb is to use unetbootin with checking the persistence option and allocating some space in unetbootin.

There are also other ways to create a persistent usb, simply search askubuntu for persistent live usb.
