Ubuntu – How to install ubuntu on MSI GE63 without ‘acpi=off’

I tried to install Ubuntu on MSI GE63 Raider 8RF 004cn. But I have to add line 'acpi=off' while installation, the fan spins very fast after I enter Ubuntu. I have searched a lot on the internet but no perfect solution.

I had the same issue on the same laptop . In short: update the bios. You can find the update files here. Just remember to disable secure boot and fast boot again after updating the bios.

On my DELL XPS 9560 I had to:

sudo nano /etc/default/grub

Then add acpi_rev_override=5 to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_rev_override=5"

Run sudo update-grub.

Profit (hopefully it will work when you reboot, and rev override is better than turning off ACPI completely. Also I recommend you to update Kernel at least to 4.14.)

I ended up doing a bios update. I had to disable fastboot and secureboot again after that, and now it works like a charm!
