Ubuntu – How to install sopcast-player

All the ppa's I used are for natty or older. How can I install sopcast in oneiric? I prefer through a ppa if it exists.

Should I try the ppa for natty? Will it work? I mean the ppa from here

Usually I install it from Ubuntu tweak. But now Ubuntu tweak is in alpha for oneiric, with a new interface. I couldn't find it there, or any other software. Explain that?

updated - PPA has been updated with oneiric support - no longer need to edit software sources with natty repo

to install

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ferramroberto/sopcast

Run in a terminal:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install sopcast-player

Note - see this bug report for 64bit workaround if required.

The start sopcast:

If you've downloaded Eclipse from their official website, follow these steps for the installation.

Extract the eclipse.XX.YY.tar.gz using
```
tar -zxvf eclipse.XX.YY.tar.gz
```
Become root and Copy the extracted folder to /opt
```
sudo mv eclipse.XX.YY /opt
```

Create a desktop file and install it:

gedit eclipse.desktop

and copy the following to the eclipse.desktop file

and make sure that it has executable permission, then execute the following command to automatically install it in the unity:

sudo desktop-file-install eclipse.desktop

Create a symlink in /usr/local/bin using

sudo ln -s /opt/eclipse/eclipse /usr/local/bin/eclipse44

For eclipse icon to be displayed in dash, eclipse icon can be added as
```
sudo cp /opt/eclipse/icon.xpm /usr/share/pixmaps/eclipse.xpm
```
Don't forget that you need to have either OpenJDK or Sun Java installed to be able to run eclipse. Check this question for more information about Java installation. Here is a simple example of installing Open JDK 1.6:
```
sudo apt-get install openjdk-6-jdk
```
Launch Eclipse and then give it the required permissions to modify the osgi file:
```
sudo chown -R $USER:$USER /opt/eclipse/configuration/org.eclipse.osgi
```
NB! You must launch Eclipse first, because the org.eclipse.osgi directory is created only after the first launch.

Ubuntu – How to install the latest OpenOffice.org

Ubuntu comes with an office suit by default, called Libre Office. If you would still like to install Open Office follow these directions.

Download..

Download Open Office from Openoffice.org (or use this direct link).
Save the file to your Downloads folder.

Install..

I highly recommend that you remove ALL previously installed versions of Open Office before proceeding!

Open a terminal and cd to the downloads folder:

cd Downloads

Now we need to untar the installation folder:

tar -xvzf Apache_OpenOffice_incubating_3.4.1_Linux_x86-64_install-deb_en-GB.tar.gz

Then cd to the folder we just extracted:

cd en-GB/DEBS

And install all the packages:

sudo dpkg -i *.deb

When that has finished cd to the "Desktop Integration" folder:

cd desktop-integration

and install those packages:

sudo dpkg -i *.deb

And you're done!

You can now remove the en-GB folder.
