Ubuntu – How to install printer Canon Pixma iP1800 on (x)ubuntu 20.04

Yesterday I reinstalled my friend's computer from Xubuntu 16.04 to 20.04. He used to print on his Canon Pixma iP1800 regularly. After this upgrade I am unable to find a way to install this priner.

Previously in Xubuntu 16.04 it works with this line:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:michael-gruz/canon-trunk

In Xubuntu 20.04 it looks hopefully with

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:thierry-f/fork-michael-gruz

But no luck because printer Canon Pixma iP1800 is missing in this repository for Ubuntu 20.04.(Focal Fossa)

How can I install Canon Pixma iP1800 on (x)ubuntu 20.04?

I received answer from Mr. Thierry. He's guy who maintains repository for Canon printer drivers for Linux

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:thierry-f/fork-michael-gruz

I am not Michael Gruz, I have taken over his work and modernized it. ia32 does not exist anymore.

Ubuntu has decided to ban the i386 from PPAs since version 20.04

I suggest you use the Disco (Disco Dingo = Ubuntu 19.04) versions, they are compatible. From now on, you have to proceed differently, I give you the procedure below:
sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386

wget https://launchpad.net/~thierry-f/+archive/ubuntu/fork-michael-gruz/+files/cnijfilter-ip1800series_4.10+3.5.4-1904ubuntu1_i386.deb

After updating to Ubuntu 13.04 (64-bit), I got my Canon ip2600 printer to work with the canon-trunk repository:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:michael-gruz/canon-trunk

sudo apt-get install cnijfilter-ip2600series

Before that, I also tried the Gutenprint driver, which installed fine, but still no reaction from the printer.

Solution to CANON MX395 for UBUNTU 12.04 connected via USB

Download from the canon website the .deb.tar.gz drivers listed below:

scangearmp-common_2.10-1_i386.deb
scangearmp-mx390series_2.10-1_i386.deb  
```
From: http://www.canon-europe.com/Support/Consumer_Products/products/Fax__Multifunctionals/InkJet/PIXMA_MX_series/MX395.aspx?type=download&language=EN&os=Linux
Extract them by right clicking on them and "selecting open with archive manager".

In a terminal, cd into the folder where you put them and type this line after line:

sudo dpkg -i cnijfilter-common_3.90-1_i386.deb
sudo dpkg -i cnijfilter-mx390series_3.90-1_i386.deb
sudo dpkg -i scangearmp-common_2.10-1_i386.deb
sudo dpkg -i scangearmp-mx390series_2.10-1_i386.deb
sudo system-config-printer

Open a browser and go to

localhost:631 → administration → add printer → Local Printers: (select closest to this) USB Printer #1 with status readback for Canon IJ (Canon MX390 series...
Try printing something with printer on, connect via USB wait 3 minutes: the printer takes that long to initiate.
