Ubuntu – How to insert countdown into a video file

Is there an easy way to insert a big countdown clock after a given time position of a video file in linux? The countdown clock should count down in seconds from n to 0.

Edit:

I don't want to insert manually pictures showing the nth second. It is clear to me how to do that. What I want is an automatic way to do this:

Set the number of seconds for the countdown (e.g. 64 or 80 seconds)
Set the time where to insert the countdown in a given video

And finally get the video with inserted countdown at specified position as a result.

It would be nice if this would be possible in a graphical video editor like openshot. However it would also be ok to have a command line solution for this.

I have a simple answer and I hope it will help you . You can use kdenlive ! after running it go to project>Generators>Countdown. You can simply type your time and font and it will generate it for you . nice time :)

ffmpeg

ffmpeg -i source.mp4 -ss 00:00:00 -t 00:00:00 -vcodec copy -acodec copy splice.mp4

This will take source.mp4 and, using the same audio and video codecs and not degrading quality, take -t time after -ss start time video and output your splice.mp4

Please note that the timing is very sensitive to formatting (above is one example formatting). Also, in some distributions, ffmpeg has been replaced with avconv. Simply run the above command and replace the word ffmpeg with avconv to solve this.

Ubuntu – Splitting a video into multiple parts

Here is a solution that worked for me.

For example:

avconv -ss 0 -i x.mp4 -t 180  -vcodec copy -acodec copy -metadata track="1" "Part I.mp4"              
avconv -ss 180 -i x.mp4 -t 164  -vcodec copy -acodec copy -metadata track="2" "Part II.mp4"              
avconv -ss 344 -i x.mp4 -t 185  -vcodec copy -acodec copy -metadata track="3" "Part III.mp4"

I had 50 entries and I put them in a script together. I first put skeletons like

avconv -ss  -i x.mp4 -t   -vcodec copy -acodec copy -metadata track="  " ".mp4"

Then I filled out the -ss and put the titles. After that, I used libreoffice Calc with space as a delimiter. I got the values for -t and track with a formula and dragging.
