Ubuntu – How to get two-finger scolling to work

Always wanted this feature but it never works in ubuntu. Is there any hack/mod to get it to work? My laptop is an Acer 5532, and my touchpad is from Synaptics. The latest drivers from Synaptics made two-finger scolling possible with Windos 7, so I'm guessing there's some way to work in Ubuntu/Linux.

So I guess you enabled the two finger scrolling as described in my first answer. As you cannot post the results of synclient -l try the following:

Open start up applications and add a new application and write the following command into the command line

xterm -e synclient "EmulateTwoFingerMinZ=10"

this will change the most probably too high value in synclient.

I'm not able to answer all of your questions, but I can answer #3. If you're using a touchpad on your laptop, you can click on the Power button (upper right-hand corner), and choose "System Settings". Then, click on the Mouse and Touchpad option. In there, click the tab for touchpad, and uncheck the "Enable mouse clicks" option. You can also set the scrolling to Disabled, or Edge Scrolling.

As for the other two questions, you can always try updating to see if that fixes the issues. If you open Software Center, you can search for Synaptiks touchpad management, or touchpad. Install the appropriate application (synaptiks is for KDE, but it should work in Unity as well), and configure the touchpad.

To get your synclient settings to stick you can add them to xorg.conf. I did this recently for my macbook pro in 12.10 and it works pretty well.

You can also specify a separate configuration file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ file to keep things neater. Here's a step by step:

Create /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d (if it doesn't already exist)

sudo mkdir /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d
Create and edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf

gksudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf

Make it look like the following:

Save and logout/login again. If the xserver fails to load and you get forced into low graphics mode then edit the file again and comment everything out, or mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf ~/10-synaptics.conf.backup and reload again to get back to normal.

For posterity, my current setup for my macbook pro 2012 13" is as follows (warning, I like my touchpad rather sensitive). Try any of these options using synclient before putting them into xorg.conf!
