I find it very inconvenient when I need to upload a file from a folder with A LOT of pictures and I need to inspect each file to find the image I'm looking for.
How do I make file dialog boxes view thumbnails like the way your file manager does?

You need to zoom out.
Use Ctrl + Scroll to zoom in and out, like you would do on a webpage.

I added a predefined list to the head section:
specs = ["folder.png", "cover.png", "monkey.png"]
and I replaced:

Create, if it doesn't exist yet, the directory
~/.local/share/nautilus/scripts
Copy the script into an empty file, save it in ~/.local/share/nautilus/scripts as set_foldericons (no extension!), and make it executable.
If, for some reason you'd like to reset the icons inside a folder to their default icon(s), use the script here

(if needed) Install dconf-tools open dconf-editor Click to: org -> gnome -> nautilus -> list-view Click (right side of the window) on default-zoom-level keep mouse button pressed for choosing prefered value: standard, large, larger, largest
