Ubuntu – How to disable two-fingers/right-click in touchpad

I would like to disable the function right-click when tapping the touchpad with two fingers, because it is always interfering with the two-fingers/scrolling function. I also would like to maintain the function left-click when double tapping with one finger.

Are you comfortable with the command prompt?

You can configure in detail how you want your touchpad to behave using synclient

You can get a list of current settings by doing synclient -l

For your specific request, you will need to run synclient TapButton2=0 to dissable the feature. To make the feature persistent create a ~/touchpad.sh configuration.

To fix the middle click you can use the following command:

xinput set-int-prop NN 266 8 2 3 0 0 1 2 3

Where NN is the id of the mousepad device, you can see it with the command xinput list. 266 is the id of the property "Synaptics Tap Action" you can see it with xinput list-props NN

You have to run this command every time you boot/login/wake.

To make it permanent you can put this command to the end of your .profile file in your home folder. (You can also try to put it in /etc/init.d/rc.local, but in my case it didn't work.)

synclient TapButton1=0

TapButton1 means 1-finger tap.
0 means do nothing.
