The ppa:hakermania/format-junkie is down, at least for me, is it possible to compile format junkie in 11.10? If so, how?

This is the list of files I have:

Format Junkie official PPA is now located at: https://launchpad.net/~format-junkie-team/+archive/release and the available versions are for 12.04 and 12.10 only, so if these do not work for you, then you will need to compile the source code for your system (sorry for this but we cannot add support for the latest 5 ubuntu releases, that would be a lot more work for us in each of the releases). Compiling Format Junkie with the files you have should be as simple as:

qmake formatjunkie.pro
make

but make sure you have all the build dependencies (check the file debian/control located at the .debian.tar.gz archive).

Generally you can use the "build-dep" command of "apt-get" to fetch dependencies to a package. Use it like this:

sudo apt-get build-dep [package name]

Or more specifically for gvim:

sudo apt-get build-dep vim-gnome

After that you should be able to compile gvim/vim either without further intervention or with only small set of dependencies to resolve required by a newer version of gvim/vim that you are compiling.

As Marius noted one such dependency resolution is installing libssl-dev manually:

sudo apt-get install libssl-dev

No special flags are needed, really. Audio is supported out-of-the-box.

Here are the commands you'll need to run to get Wine up and running, straight from the source.

sudo -s
cd /tmp
wget http://winezeug.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/install-wine-deps.sh
sh install-wine-deps.sh
wget http://mirrors.ibiblio.org/wine/source/1.5/wine-1.5.9.tar.bz2
tar xjvf wine-1.5.9.tar.bz2
cd wine-1.5.9/
./configure
make
make install

Here's what the commands actually do:

Drop to a root shell

Go to the temp folder

Download the Wine dependency installer script

Run the Wine dependency installer script

Download the Wine source

Extract the Wine source

Enter the Wine source directory

Run the configuration script

Compile Wine

Install Wine

Note: Don't do this on an actively used server with insufficient ressources.. This slowed my Nagios server to a crawl! :)
