Nautilus does not show my USB devices in its Devices pane. Nor does it mount them automatically. Looking at the syslog, I can see that kernel registers the event when I mount a device. Obviously, gconf has all the necessary settings for Nautilus set up.
I've searched Internet for some info, tried some solutions like disabling legacy floppy in BIOS — does not work. Appreciate any help.
You can control where a device is mounted via the /etc/fstab file. Here are some examples from my /etc/fstab - it's up to you to adjust it for your situation.
# Part of the 1TB drive, for Rick's recovery
UUID=abcf5311-d080-4840-8056-ee4de9d62bfd /opt/Rick ext4 nodev,nosuid,user,noauto,rw
#
# My current mp3 player
UUID=70E0-C8E1 /home/walt/mnt/SANSAClip vfat nodev,nosuid,noexec,user,noauto,rw
#
# My backup 1TB StoryStation
UUID=ff359af0-d996-4949-b27e-f24ce453c48c /backvol ext3 nodev,nosuid,noexec,user,noauto,rw
Because they all have the noauto option, they don't automount (except the mp3 player, and I don't even have gnome-mount installed).
gconf-editor may be the wrong tool now. dconf-editor is the new favorite :-)
So open dconf-editor and navigate to
org.gnome.desktop.media-handling, where you will find at least two entries:
Check the first one to mount media automatically and the second one to open a nautilus-window with the already mounted media.
