In the newest release of Dropbox, the background of the icon is black (in the system tray). So no matter which theme you use, unless it's a black theme, the icon looks awful. Does anyone know the cause?

Found a solution at the comment #7 from the Ubuntu bug:
Install package
sudo apt-get install libappindicator1Log out, and then log back in (or issue
dropbox stop && dropbox startat the command line)

Now presenting... my ever-so-embarrassing, not-really-to-be-recommended, disgustingly cringeworthy hack:
- Find your notification icons in the
.dropbox-distdirectory, which might be in~/.dropbox-distor/var/lib/dropbox/.dropbox-dist. Inside this, the icons are in the folderdropbox-lnx.x86_64-3.2.9/images/hicolor/16x16/status(or similar, your path may differ depending on the version and build used). - Determine the colour of your
xfce4-panel. This is easy using a tool like Gimp with the colour picker tool (
). Mine happens to be #242424. - For each of the notification icons which are PNG images with transparency, open them with Gimp. Yes, that's right folks, I'm going to change that background from transparent to a solid color (in my case,
#242424).
The result:
Looking good. This is perfectly fine for me, as I don't change the xfce4-panel color. However, some things to note:
- You'll need to restart dropbox for the change to take effect:
- ~$ dropbox stop
- ~$ dropbox start
- If you edit the stock 16x16px icons, you might find them centred with a 2px
#EFEBE7border if your icons are 22x22px. I addressed this by simply enlarging the icons to my required size (22x22px). If Dropbox is ever updated, your icons might be blown away. If you're going to try this yourself, keep a backup copy of your icons outside the Dropbox directory. Or, you can just download them from here (if you also use
#242424for your panel color):

This happens because nvidia driver overrode OpenGL library (libGL.so). This workaround works for me on kubuntu 14.04 [and linux mint 17].
1) close dropbox session
2) find your nvidia system folder: in my systems it's /usr/lib/nvidia-331 (if you using another version of nvidia driver, for instance nvidia-340, your directory should be /usr/lib/nvidia-340). Take note of libGL.so.1 inside this folder
3) find dropbox system library. with dropbox 3.4.6 this is in the home directory.. the version number may change, and may have to be modified when you type it into the terminal
4) backup your's dropbox OpenGL library:
5) make symbolic link to nvidia's OpenGL library.:
(so basically: ln -sf /usr/lib/nvidia-[VERSIONHERE]/libGL.so.1 ~/.dropbox-dist/[VERSIONHERE]/libGL.so.1
6) start up dropbox
Hopefully this helps, this worked for me. What it does is force dropbox to use the libGL installed on your system after nvidia overwrites it, by placing a symbolic link to the nvidia libGL in place of the one dropbox was installed with. After backing up the old dropbox libGL, of course.
