Ubuntu – Cron job every day at Specific Minute of Specific Hour

I am trying to set a cron job in the crontab which would execute my command every day at specific minute of specific hour. I am using the Indian timezone in my server.

If I set the job like below, well … it executes at specific minute in every hour:

30 * * * * COMMAND

But if I set the job like below, it doesn't execute:

30 15 * * * COMMAND  # not excecuting

Why it is not executing? Where is the problem?

You can add a cron job like:

30 00,01,02,....23 * * * COMMAND

where you can specify your desired hours as 00,01,02,...23 (separating them with a comma).

If you want to run a script as a normal user:

crontab -e

And add the line:

07,37 * * * * /usr/bin/tunlrupdate.sh

If you want to run your script as root:

sudo crontab -e

And add the same line:

If you want to set cronjob for every hour, you can do it any of following way:

You can run:

0 * * * * /path/to/script

which reads

On minute 0, each hour, each day of month, each month, each day of the week.

@hourly /path/to/script

0 */1 * * * /path/to/script

An asterisk (*) can be used so that every instance (every hour, every weekday, every month, etc.) of a time period is used.
