17.04gnomesoftware installation
I just tried an install of Ubuntu GNOME 17.04 (looks really nice) and have been able to install from command line and Software Install.
However, if I download a .deb file, eg virtualbox or atom editor, the .deb opens in software install, I click Install but nothing happens, not even a flicker. (did not have this issue on 16.04 or 16.10)
Is there a know problem? Is there an alternative way to install a downloaded
.deb?
WARNING: This answer may became obsolete anytime soon. WPS for Linux seems be have been abandoned. The version you have is the last one and it may not be installable in newer Ubuntu releases.
The original error message - unexpected end of file or stream - suggests corrupt download. This has been confirmed with the checksum.
Download from my personal share and confirm SHA1 matches 80d884c47eaeee3305958ed87e61eafbee30b0cf.
Before installing, due to a missing dependency since 16.10, this workaround is still required. You should now be able to install and enjoy this great office suite that unfortunately reached the end of its life.
sudo apt-get install gdebiWhen prompted select "Other" and then select "GDebi" as the installer as shown below:
Click "Install Package", and when you see the image below click "Start Steam" to complete the installation.

Edit: For some reason I had to run ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam to get it to launch and update the first time. Since then it launches normally.

I have had this problem too (I was trying to install logmein hamachi), you should install gdebi package manager. It worked to install debs on my machine. Hope it helps!
