Ubuntu – Can’t find wifi drivers for 0bda:f179 Realtek Semiconductor Corp

Just go to the drivers section and activate the driver. But as far as I'm concerned you'll need an Internet connection to install it (i.e. LAN). At least that worked for me, but I use Ubuntu GNOME 13.10

Why do you want to install Ubuntu 12.04?

Here's what I did to get the driver working on Debian Stretch:

1) Download official driver from realtek: https://www.realtek.com/en/component/zoo/category/network-interface-controllers-10-100-1000m-gigabit-ethernet-usb-3-0-software

2) untar it: # tar xvf ./r8152.53.56-2.12.0.tar

3) make sure you have current kernel headers installed sudo apt install linux-headers-$(uname -r)

4) compile the driver cd r8152_2.12.0 && make

5) install the compiled driver sudo make install
