Ubuntu – Can’t find GIMP 2.10 folder in 16.04

I recently deleted GIMP 2.8 and installed 2.10, the version maintained by Snapcrafters for pre-18.04. I'm trying to use a new font with GIMP and can't find the program folder anywhere (installing the font globally isn't reflected in GIMP). I've looked through the home folder as well as ~/.local/share and it doesn't seem to be anywhere. How can I find GIMP's filepath?

Two ways:

Edit > Preferences > Folders > Fonts: two folders, at least one should be under your /home.
Filters > Python-fu > Console and enter print gimp.directory. Your fonts directory is a child of that directory

The version which you ask for was not available on feature freeze of 18.04 and will however maybe make it into 18.10. However for older versions of Ubuntu and 18.04 you can get this version of GIMP from a PPA. Follow the below steps to get it:

sudo apt remove --purge gimp
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:otto-kesselgulasch/gimp-edge
sudo apt update # Beginning with 18.04 this step can be omitted
sudo apt install gimp

This gives you as of time I'm writing this 2.10. This PPA is well maintained.

Ubuntu – Reinstalling Gimp 2.8 into 20.04

install an old Mint 18.3 on a new partition and just use its GIMP 2.8.16 on your files. I upgraded to the latest Mint and hated the GIMP 2.10 as I lost my iwarp feature I use on fender flares on car pictures. Tried in vain to extract the GIMP 2.8 off a Linux STUDIO disk I had and all the online varients but kept running into the same version check roadblocks. I'm happy with the 2.8.16 and will continue to use it as is. Throw all your pictures on a SD card and just work off that so as to make portability between versions easy.
