Ubuntu – Cannot play DVDs on Ubuntu 14.04

dvdvlc

I've got libdvdcss2 installed but still no joy. Tried VLC, mplayer and the default players and all give me errors. Regionset does not even see the DVD.

VLC is able to ignore the region value with most drives. However, it must be set to something:

sudo apt-get install regionset

Place the DVD in your drive and in your case, run:

regionset /dev/sr0

Then set the Region from 1 to 8: See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_code#Region_codes_and_countries
