When I double-click to select text in GNOME Terminal, the selection stops at spaces but continues over hyphens:
Some of my filenames contain uncommon characters such as the heavy teardrop-spoked asterisk and are not selectable by double-clicking:
Is there a way to make double-click selection continue over these characters as well?
You can't do it visually, in a GUI-mouse fashion. The terminal is line-oriented and selection only works within that framework.

To select a word at a time, double-click on the first word that you want to select and drag the mouse to the last word that you want to select. Symbols are selected individually. To select a line at a time, triple-click on the first line that you want to select and drag the mouse to the last line that you want to select."
The 'dragging' mentioned here refers to adding to the selection area, not dragging the selected text. Once you finish dragging and lift up on the mouse button, the selected text is automatically copied to the clipboard. Then you can use the middle-mouse button to paste it into your destination application.
Or, once the text is selected, use Control-Shift-C to copy, or right-click in gnome-terminal and select Copy, and then Control-Shift-V to paste, or select Paste from the context menu in gnome-terminal. These are extra keystrokes or mouse clicks. The automatic placement of the selected text onto the clipboard makes it very nice to just go paste with one mouse click. That's only one more mouse-click than the feature you're seeking.
If you want, you can add a request for this feature to the gnome-terminal package at Launchpad. I don't see any bugs there about this.

In order to disable or reorder the gnome-terminal context menu, you should try editing the terminal.xml file located in /usr/share/gnome-terminal/ directory.
1) Make a backup of the terminal.xml file.
Open a Terminal window Ctrl+Alt+T and type:
cd /usr/share/gnome-terminal/sudo cp -p terminal.xml terminal.xml.bak2) Edit the terminal.xml file with your favorite editor. eg: nano
sudo nano -c /usr/share/gnome-terminal/terminal.xmlRegarding to your question you can comment the lines for the PopupNewTerminal PopupNewTab PopupCloseTab PopupCloseWindow menus. (Lines 88 to 93)
You can comment those lines with <!-- lines --> symbols.
To save the changes in nano.. Ctrl+O,Enter then Ctrl+X.
Exit or Close the Terminal window and open it again to see the changes.

This is just an example, you can comment, delete or change the order in the menus (put the PopupCopy and PopupPaste menus before the PopupNewTerminal) in the file.
Just in case... please remember you have a backup of the terminal.xml.
