Word – Remove page numbers for one section in Word 2011

I am running Microsoft Word 2011 on Mac OS X 10.6.8, and am editing a .docx Word document created with it.

I would like my title page to be without page numbers, so I added a "Section Break (Next Page)" at the end of the title page to start the main text where I would like to have page numbers.

I was able to insert page numbers to the main text from page one, but it also added a page number ("1") to the title page! Is there a way to remove that page number or limit page numbering to a specific section in my document? Thanks!

Check out your link to previous settings in the headers or footers where the page numbers reside.

You can make sure that the page headers and footers in the different sections are not linked to each other.

EDIT: I realize the Mac version of word is a bit funny in the placement of things. Here is a forum post where they explain how to find the options you need to un-link headers and footers

Add the following macro to your document and run it once:

Sub Main()
    On Error Resume Next
    For i = 0 To ActiveDocument.Sections.Count
        ActiveDocument.Sections(i).Footers(wdHeaderFooterEvenPages).PageNumbers.RestartNumberingAtSection = False
        ActiveDocument.Sections(i).Footers(wdHeaderFooterFirstPage).PageNumbers.RestartNumberingAtSection = False
        ActiveDocument.Sections(i).Footers(wdHeaderFooterPrimary).PageNumbers.RestartNumberingAtSection = False
    Next i
End Sub

You can add this macro by pressing ALT-F11. That'll open the VBA window. Right click "ThisDocument" and choose "Insert/Module". Copy and paste the code from above, then press F5. This will force every section to continous page numbering.

The key thing is this ...

Make sure that the document contains a section break of some type. The section break type that you want is typically Next Page. Use the section break to separate the main document area from the appendix area.

Note that "Heading 6" is the 6th level of headings (i.e. sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-headings), not the 6th heading in the document. I expect it is irrelevant to what you are trying to achieve.
