In Microsoft Word, when I put a background image and write text on top of it, the text has white background:
I want to remove this background, so that the text is written directly on top of the image.
I tried to select "text highlight color" -> "No color" and "Shading" -> "No color" but it did not help.
How can I remove this background?
You could use HTML instead of word documents.
Not only is it a standard and easily viewed, but you can actually define different stylesheet for screen and printer.
Depending on your needs, you can knit the markup by hand or customize TinyMCE for your needs.
Or, as is quite common, you could use a wiki system to write your documentation, which would also give you all the features of a wiki (versioning, linking, searching, tagging etc.).
The Magic wand is your friend. I could supply you with a completed PNG but I'd rather show you how to do it
Things of note? Use the contiguous not global setting. Play with the tolerances - I went with 70 percent to knock some of the antialising off. I picked a larger area to work on but you can/should just zoom in when working. Having a black background layer is a nice way to check if your cropping is fine.

Try these two options.
Highlight the text and press
CTRL+SPACE.In the top most bar, select Design then towards the extreme end on the right select page border. On the dialog box that appears, select shading tab. Ensure that no color is selected. Then towards the right, there is a drop down, select text.
