Is it possible to disable the automatic spell checker in MS Word 2010 for single paragraphs of a document or just for some parts of a document?
I'd like to get rid of the squiggly lines in some parts of a document (e.g. containing extracts of an XML document), because they make reading the document hard.
You can only do this in Word 2013 or later by putting a title above a paragraph. To fold in or fold out the paragraph, click on the triangle circled in red on the screenshot below.
This is unfortunately impossible in older versions of Word.
Check what language is being used for a paragraph.

This was the cause of my problem where auto-correct was not working.
I've never understood why sections of my docs keep appearing in different languages. It's not something I ever change.
In Office 2000 I could see the language in the status bar where I would look automatically whenever strange things started to happen. Unfortunately, even though I have ticked Language when I right-click on the status bar, it doesn't display the language.
It wasn't obvious to me that Language would be in the Review section and it is tedious to have to use Review > Language.

OK, I guess I found it and it's quite simple:
Word 2007
Word 2010/2013/2016
For Word 2010/2013/2016 you have use Review ribbon menu. Click Language and then
Set proofing language. You can disable spell and grammar check there even you can select a different language for proofing.
