Word 2010 : can’t insert cursor into a cell to type a text, but it works for the cell in next page

A re-install of office should theoretically pretty much rule out any problem in the install.

Instead what you probably need to be looking at something related to the users profile.

This could be in few different areas

• Something about a per-user default template
• Something in the Current User hive of the registry for that user
• Some other file or setting stored in the AppsData portion of the users profile.

Usually a quick test to rule out an issue with the profile is simply to login as a separate user on same system and see if you can duplicate the problem. If a separate account works fine, then you need to narrow down where the problem is. You do this by deleting(moving) various likely things in the profile. If the user can live with some loss of settings and configuration, then simply backup any data and nuke the profile and restore data. Issues with the profile and per-user settings can be pretty difficult to trouble-shoot.

There may be two separate problems

Here, if I

• insert the header on page 1
• add a page break
• change the header to "different first page"

the first page header disappears.

If I then re-insert the page 1 header, the two headers are separate, i.e. if I type outside the Title box in the page 1 header, that text does not appear in subsequent headers, and vice versa.

However, any text inside the Title box (which is a content control) will be repeated on every page, because the text in there is "connected to" the document's "Title" built-in property. Change the title in the Document's properties, or in any content control connected to that property, and it will change everywhere.

So if you want a different text in that area on page one and subsequent pages, you will need to delete the box in the header(s) where you do not want the Title, and type the plain text instead.
