Windows – How to have the Windows keymap on Mac

On Mac, to get a "{" for example, you have to press OPTION key plus 8 to get a curly brace. But on Windows it is ALT-GR plus 7.

Another example: On Windows I can press CTRL and Backspace to remove one whole word. On Mac it is OPTION + Backspace.

Is there a way I can remap these Mac-driven behavior to be more Windows-like? Because this is, as a very long Windows user, a big burden on me to have such a different keyboard layout.

Edit: I'm using a german keyboard layout.

You can use Ukelele to create your own keyboard layout. However, I think there is no way to differentiate between left and right (ALT-GR) alt keys. This should make brackets and curly braces more accessible.

Regarding Ctrl-BS and Alt-BS, I don't think there's a way to change that.

Macos – Synergy Key Mapping

I was in a similar situation at one point, and I found a somewhat 'unique' way around it. Plug the keyboard directly into your Mac, and edit the keyboard preferences directly. After that, any non-Apple keyboard you attach will use those mappings.

Plug in they keyboard.
Open System Preferences (Apple Menu -> System Preferences).
Enter "Keyboard" preferences (under Hardware).
From the "Keyboard Mapping" (or similarly named) tab, change the key mapping as you see fit.

Synergy+ will use these key mappings, since it identifies as a virtual keyboard.

EDIT: Equivalent mappings, based on function:

Mac has the extra modifier key (kind of like the old EMACS-style keyboards, which had up to 5 modifier keys). Super is generally deprecated, so you shouldn't have to worry about remapping it.
