Windows – How to drag and drop images from Windows Explorer to Excel

When I drag and drop image files from Windows Explorer to Excel,
nothing happens.
Can you make it work?

I’m particularly interested in jpg/png or ico files,
but I’d like to be able to do it with all image types.

I have been inserting them using Excel’s insert image features,
but it doesn't seem to be super productive.
I was looking for a faster, efficient option to improve productivity.

If you are using Excel 2007 or greater, try the shortcut key ALT+N, ALT+P

That might be the fastest way.

I finally found the solution thanks to this website. Right click on your Desktop and make a new text file. Open it and paste the code below in. Once that is done, go to File, Save As, and change Save as type: to All files (*.*). For the file name put value.reg. After that simply double click on the file to add it to your registry.

Windows 8 – can’t drag files from Explorer and drop on applications

OK, finally worked out what it is. Any applications opened directly from Explorer seem to be fine. Any applications opened from an application launcher anywhere in their history (eg: Launchy, Classic Shell start menu etc) exhibit the above behaviour. Running the application launcher as Administrator mostly fixes the problem, though it still occurs infrequently and I still can't work out why.
