Windows – Does ClipX work on Windows 7 / 2008 R2 x64 SP1

ClipX always crashes these days. It seems to still work on my laptop, which I have not yet updated to Windows 7 SP1, but it crashes on my desktop PC and servers.

I have started using Ditto, but after using ClipX for years, I am not taking to it. I don't like the way it does not automatically go to the previous clipboard entry and I cannot find any way to have 'sticky' clips.

So, can ClipX work on Win7 / 2008 R2 SP1, or is this the end for ClipX, seeing as it has not been updated for a long time? Or is it possible that I am now running something in my standard environment that is incompatible with it?

After a few months of using Ditto, and finally getting fed up with it, I tried using ClipX again, and found that it does indeed work perfectly well on Windows 7 SP1 and 2008 R2 SP1.

I still have no idea why it was crashing before (on different OS installations).

Update: For some reason, this problem went away on its own. I'm able to use Ditto as it used to work, collecting everything that I copy. This is kind of frustrating, as it doesn't address the original issue. – Bassam Mar 1 at 18:03

Here are some suggestions if you might experience this problem as well:

Try to run with elevated permissions and a less locked down UAC.
Update your Windows and software.
Create a new user profile to see whether it happens there.
Remove automatically starting entries, as another start-up program might perhaps interfere...

The following adds 'C:\bin' to your path and then saves the new path into the Registry:

reg.exe ADD "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment" /v Path /t REG_EXPAND_SZ /d %path% /f

I only tested this on XP SP3, but it should work on newer version as well.

I guess a new user who logs on before the machine reboots may not get the new path.

Harry is right with his comment about %SystemRoot%, if you want to keep these, you need to pull the old value for path from the registry first:
