I'm having a strange problem with my headset, whenever I plug in my headset I get microphone playback. When I go to Recording Devices -> Properties -> Listen -> Listen to this device, it's turned off. If I enable it, I can hear myself twice through the speakers. Does anyone know how to fix this? I don't have this problem with my laptop or other desktop.

I am unsure exactly what you mean, however, if you are saying that what you say in to your microphone is coming out of the speakers then do the following:
- Right click on the audio icon near the clock.
- Click "Recording Devices"
- Double click on your microphone Device.
- Click the "Listen" tab.
- make sure that "Listen to this device" is unchecked.
If you are saying that you want to edit the boost / sensitivity level, do the following:
- Right click on the audio icon near the clock.
- Click "Recording Devices"
- Double click on your microphone Device.
- Click the "Levels" tab.
- Move the sliders accordingly.
Lastly, if you are still having problems, you may want to try a combination of "Enhancements" such as "Noise Suppression". To do this:
- Right click on the audio icon near the clock.
- Click "Recording Devices"
- Double click on your microphone Device.
- Click the "Enhancements" tab.
- Tick the boxes accordingly.
Like the ability for 'stereo mix' to be supported as an input this is something that has to be enabled in the sound controller hardware.
Your drivers would need to expose this ability to Windows for it to present you with those options.
Thus either you need to update your drivers (the latest from HP is probably NOT the latest/most complete driver set for your card), or simply your card does not support this feature.
