When I try to connect to a host, the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client Version 4.3.01095, does not connect and gives a error popup like: The VPN connection failed due to an unexpected error encountered by the VPN client.
My OS is windows 7 ultimate 32 bit with SP1.
I could not find a solution at the Cisco site nor via googling.
Here's what has worked for me:
secpol.mscNetwork List Manager PoliciesPublicFrom now on windows will retain the network type as "public".
Technically speaking this will populate entries below the following:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkList\Signatures\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkList\Signatures\
Those policies take precedence over the following entries - which (due to whatever logic) may change dynamically:

The most recent Windows patch-Tuesday update - KB3023607 - causes the same problem with Cisco AnyConnect VPN. Your options for correcting this include:
On the Windows Taskbar, right-click on the Cisco AnyConnect icon and choose Quit.
Open File Explorer and navigate to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Cisco\Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client\.Find
vpnui.exe, right-click on it, and then choose the Troubleshoot Compatibility option.
Choose Try Recommended Settings.
Click Test Program (notice that Windows chooses Windows 7 compatibility mode in case you have to set it manually). Choosing to "Test the Program" will launch the Cisco AnyConnect client, giving you the chance test logging in. It should work.
Once it's proven that Cisco AnyConnect works, choose to save the settings. If it doesn't work, the troubleshooter gives you the options of trying again with different settings. The Windows 7 compatibility worked for me and I run Windows 8.1.
Program Compatibility Troubleshooter will give you a final report. Close the troubleshooter and you should be good to go.

Honestly my job used to have this error alot. Sometimes it would mean that the account was locked or the time deviated at some point and the server locked you out. When I crossed into the Mountain Time Zone from the Eastern one, I got this error a lot. I had to turn off automatic time zone set to get it to stop. I think changing the clock will often lock out your account.
With my job, they couldn't figure it out so they unlocked it and gave me a new token which they synced up and I was fine after that.
The other option is to try Shrewsoft VPN which will let you load in those Cisco VPN pcf files. It really works pretty well for the price ($10). I used it in Win10 for a while until my job upgraded to AnyConnect which is far less problematic.
