Windows – Can’t disable Windows search

windows 7windows-search

I'm trying to shut down Windows search, i.e. disable indexing.

I tried to change it to manual or disabled, but after I restarted the service it is still switched on. I have an SSD, so I don't want it to be enabled.

Best Answer

To disable the search indexing service, follow subsequent steps

  1. Click start -> services.msc
  2. Locate Windows Search
  3. Double click and change Startup type to Disabled. Click ok.
  4. Reboot your system and repeat steps #1 and #2 and confirm that the status field is blank (indicates that the service is not running).

To disable search, follow the instructions mentioned below

  1. Click Start -> appwiz.cpl
  2. Click Turn Windows features on or off
  3. Untick Windows search from the list and click Yes
  4. Click ok and restart
