Windows – Cannot Remove Password on Windows 10 Account

I am having an issue with removing a password from my account on Windows 10. The account is currently password protected, but I do not want it to be. To resolve this, I attempted to use the "Settings" app, but doing so resulted in the following error.

As this is my personal computer and I am administrator, I have full access to the computer's policy settings. Here are the settings I have for password-related settings.

Why am I still unable to remove my password completely? I am running Windows 10 Pro x64 build 10240.

The issue was caused by HP ProtectTools, which requires a password on the user account in order to operate properly. It appears that after adding a password to an account that did not previously have one, it is impossible to remove the password thanks to this software. Removing the software from the computer resolves the issue.

I'm curious how your account became a guest account. That sounds like uncharacteristic behavior.

First, try booting into Safe Mode by pressing F8 before the windows boot animation appears. By default, the built-in administrator account will be enabled when you boot into safe mode. Try logging into it, then you can reset the permissions on your original account from there, then reboot into normal mode.

First open the Run dialog box by:

Windows XP:  Start -> Run
Windows 7/10: Start -> Type "run" (no quotes) and select when shows or
(All Windows versions): [Windows Key] + [R]  (very quick way of bringing it up)

Then in the Run dialog box, put control userpasswords2<ENTER>

You should be able to resolve your problem from there.
