Windows – Are Windows 7 product keys language-dependent

I am a student in a computer science school which is part of the MSDN Academic Alliance program.

Recently Windows 7 Pro showed up in the list of available software on ELMS. Problem is, it is in the French language (I am in a French school).

I would prefer to have Windows 7 in English. Question is: can I use the product key I got for the French version when installing an English (and otherwise identical) version of Windows 7?

In other words, is the product key dependant of the product language?

No. Product keys are SKU dependent. They are not language dependent.

The input language settings are per-application. An application which calls a Windows API in order to change the input locale, can set a different keyboard layout, if it is enabled for the user.

Sometimes it also happens, if you accidentally hit the ALT and LEFT-SHIFT keys together. If you don't want to have this behavior, you could "uninstall" all input languages/cultures you don't need in the Control Panel:

Regional and Language Options > Text Services and Input Languages

I've downloaded and installed the english iso of Windows 7 Professional from Digital River, used my product key and activated it online.
