Windows – Allowing port access on Windows

I have a message broker running on my computer on port 1883.
I tried to telnet that port (to test its accssibility) from a computer on the same network but that didn't work.

How can I allow other computers on the same network to connect to the broker on that port?

You will probably have to enable the TCP or UDP port 1883 in Windows Firewall with Advanced Security which is found in Control Panel among Administrative Tools. Add an In-bound rule on the PC where the service runs to allow the incoming requests to 1883 to pass through the firewall.

When I installed RabbitMQ on Mac OS X, via brew, I had the same problem with port 5672 only being open on localhost.

It turned out that the file /usr/local/etc/rabbitmq/rabbitmq-env.conf contained an entry for NODE_IP_ADDRESS to bind it only to localhost. Removing the NODE_IP_ADDRESS entry from the config binds the port to all network inferfaces.

Windows Command to check if a remote server port is opened

You can use netstat.exe to query for open ports.

netstat.exe:

C:\Users\user>netstat.exe /?

Displays protocol statistics and current TCP/IP network connections.

NETSTAT [-a] [-b] [-e] [-f] [-n] [-o] [-p proto] [-r] [-s] [-x] [-t] [interval]

  -a            Displays all connections and listening ports.

example netstat -a:

To do a remote netstat.exe you can use psexec tool (free avaiable from here)
