With IE10, I could add selected sites to Compatibility View via the registry with something like registry setting for IE's compatibility view settings to add a site?, so it was easy to push these settings out to my users. But with IE11, I haven't been able to figure out how to do it. I've done some tests and searched the registry but haven't been able to locate the correct key.

To specifically address the issue mentioned by STGdb regarding Exchange OWA forcing light mode. There is a patch for Exchange server for this issue.

URL’s can be added to Compatibility View List in IE 10 by using the following group policy,

User Configuration->Administrative Templates->Windows Components->Internet Explorer->Compatibility View->Use Policy List of Internet Explorer 7 sites.

If you want to enter this information directly in the registry,

Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\BrowserEmulation\PolicyList (You may create registry folders manually if not present, or a .REG file will create everything for you)
Right Click PolicyList ->New->String Value->Enter the name of the website both under ‘Name’ and ‘Data’ (e.g. superuser.com)

Example REG file:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\BrowserEmulation\PolicyList]
"superuser.com"="superuser.com"

Windows – Server2012r2: Trusted sites greyed out in IE11

I have finally found out where was the problem. Maybe it will help somebody in the similar situation.

In one of many tries I have set a registry value HKLM/SOFTWARE/Policies/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Internet settings/ZoneMapKey
to the value of the specified webpage. For some reason this settings greyed out the sites settings. Unfortunatelly, the registry value did not set the trusted site also.
