Moving cursor in PuTTY with mouse click

I've used PuTTY to connect via SSH to my FreeBSD- and Ubuntu-servers for several years, and I always move the cursor by using the keyboard. However, I wonder if it's possible to move the cursor in PuTTY by clicking on a target position with the mouse? It could be useful sometimes while editing files in nano etc.

This needs to be supported by each program separately, and I'm not sure if any shells support mouse...

In nano, add set mouse to your ~/.nanorc.

Add these two lines to your ~/.inputrc file on the destination machine:

"\eOD": backward-word
"\eOC": forward-word

To make sure that they are the correct sequences, at a Bash prompt, type Ctrl-V Ctrl-LeftArrow and Ctrl-V Ctrl-RightArrow, you should see:

^[OD^[OC

When you start a new session, the keys will be available or you can press Ctrl-xCtrl-r to re-read the ~/.inputrc file for the current session.

I had the same problem with PuTTY and found that is was being caused by an application I have called "caffeine" which effectively presses the F13 key every minute to stop the screen saver from being activated (group policies prevent me from changing screen saver timeout on my machine). Disabling the application solved me problem.
