Is it possible to "globally" substitute a terminal color somehow in OSX? In particular, I find that the dark blue is really hard on the eyes as demonstrated here:
I'd love to be able to kick this color to the curb. It seems to be used throughout however: whether it's vim, or ls, or simply the prompt, I want it replaced with something lighter.
I was having a similar problem with Vim + GNU Screen + Terminal.app. Here was my solution:
Create a script called resetcolor:
#!/bin/bash
echo -ne "\033[0m"
Put this script in your PATH.
Then within ~/.vimrc, add the following:
au VimLeave * !resetcolor

You can change your shell colors in Terminal's preferences.
With these settings, you get these colors (not usually using colored ls, so I don't care):
I don't understand what the issue is here. Colored command output is active by default. The only thing you can/need to do yourself is give normal and bold text different default colors, and actually use the colored variants (e.g. ls -G) of your commands.
For vim: :syntax on in vim. Or append syntax on to .vimrc.

Terminal has preferences like any other application. Try
Terminal --> Window Settings --> Color
They have some predefined themes and options for picking your own.
