Macos – Setting chmod 777 on folder using Mac Terminal

I am trying to set the upload permissions on a local folder in my test website.

I'm using Terminal on a Mac and the following command:

chmod 777 thumbs

but I get the following error

chmod: thumbs: No such file or directory

I'm really not all that sure about using Terminal so sorry if I'm not being clear – I'm trying to set up a PHP site locally on my Mac.

you have to be in the directory that contains thumbs. Do an

ls

to see whats in your current directory. You can also do a

pwd

to see where on the filesystem you are. typically when you log in you are in

/home/yourusername

the thumb directory is not there.

Using 777 on an server with an ftp is not safe, so unless it's a very isolated network I'd suggest using 700 and changing the user (chown) or 770 and changing the group (chgrp) to manage the permisions if you are developing with some other users.

So if the ftp user you are using is for example myftpuser

sudo chown -R myftpuser /path/to/file
sudo chmod -R 700 /path/to/file

Should work.

Looks like your TERM value isn't recognized. You are probably setting the TERM value in your .profile (or similar) or you've got missing/corrupt files or invalid permissions in /usr/share/terminfo/.
