Macos – How to move notes from Microsoft OneNote for Mac to Evernote for Mac

I had been using Evernote. When Microsoft launched OneNote for Mac, I experimented with it for a few months. I'd like to move back to using Evernote, but I'd like to be able to move the notes I created in OneNote (which are almost all text) into Evernote.

Is there a way to manually export notes from OneNote for Mac and import them into Evernote for Mac, or otherwise synchronize notebooks between these products?

If it helps I could also do this from Windows with OneNote 2010 and a current version of Evernote for Windows.

As far as I can tell, there is no way to get your notes out of OneNote on a Mac other than printing to PDF.

The OneNote documentation seems to be only relevant to the Windows platforms. There are other ways that OneNote for the Mac is a crippled version of the original, but it gets a little better with each release.

In short, look at this registry key:

 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\OneNote\Options\Other

There are two DWORD values ScreenClippingShortcutKey & NewNoteShortcutKey. The default values are:

ScreenClippingShortcutKey: 0x53
NewNoteShortcutKey: 0x4e

If we look in this ASCII table:

In row 5, column 3 (0x53), we see the S. So, this is where the S of the hotkey is set.

Change it to another value according to the ASCII table to adjust the hotkey.

How to export OneNote profile (GUI settings)

You could probably get by with exporting the OneNote registry key from the source system, and importing into the new system. I'm using Office 2010, and the relevant key is:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\OneNote

For Office 2007, which is version 12.0, your path would probably be:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\OneNote

You might also try copying the OneNote folders from within your appdata folder:

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneNote
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\OneNote

Though these folder appear to contain backups and cached information. I would back up those folders, just to have them, and start be importing the reg data. If that doesn't get you what you need, I would them try restoring the data from those folders.
