In OS X 10.6, Finder usually looks something like this:
The Finder window looks like that when you double-click on most folders or drives. However, whenever I mount a Truecrypt Volume and double-click that, it looks like this:
Is there any way to default to the first view option for all types of folders? I tried view options in Finder, but it didn't seem to work.

Armed with this knowledge, my problem must stem from old .DS_Store files in some folders as to why in certain folders the text size deviates from my default 10 point default.
.DS_Store Recursively in FoldersMy frustration and confusion from seeing folders open not using my defaults appears to have stemmed from old .DS_Store files from folders that I had copied over from an older machine. To resolve, I recursively deleted the folders as follows using Terminal:
cd ~/Folder with bad views
sudo find . -name ".DS_Store" -depth -exec rm {} \;

You need to press Ctrl-Opt-Cmd-Number instead of Ctrl-Cmd-Number.
To get the sorting (instead of arranging) menu items, hold down Option. The implemented the Sort by/Arange by submenu somewhat oddly though, so pressing Option while it's already visible won't change the menu items.

Your truecrypt volume is not formatted as JHFS+ (and it won't be). I usually format my tc volumes at fat 32. The easiest work around is to select the truecrypt icon from the left hand side of a finder window that is already open.
Even if you get preferences set for the session that the volume is mounted you will start with the simple finder style folder the next time you mount the volume and double click on it from the desktop.
